What will happen?
Facilitated session: A facilitator (internal or external)
manages the software. The team’s ideas are instantly visible
for everyone to see, as they are created.
Flexible
Agendas: The team members follow the facilitator’s guidance.
The facilitator types in an issue, loads a standard template containing
a proven thinking or decision method and begins. The software presents
questions or issues in a logical sequence. People type their ideas
in a “playspace” and send them to the teamspace where
they collect ready for further discussion. Facilitators can also
craft their own set of questions, change the order, save them as
a template and re-use the template, making improvements to the
process.
Click to discuss: Just click on any idea and it becomes your
next agenda item. All the ideas people then contribute are linked
to that idea.
Themes: Team members make sense of the ideas on the screen,
then capture the common themes.

Automatic save: All ideas are saved even if you forget.
Navigation aids: The flow of ideas can be traced up to eight
layers deep. Every idea that has attachments is marked black
for more ideas, grey for images or web sites and pink for both.
Agenda Creator: Brainstorm a question sequence, then change
the order and save it for a fast start to a future meeting. Great
for trainers, and instructional designers to create new meta-cognitive
tools.
Timer: Zing has two timers. The session timer counts down the
hours and minutes. The activity timer keeps the team on task
through the Talk-Type-Read-Summarize steps for each agenda item.
Reports: You can print or export
the entire session in html or Word.
Impact of Positive Matrix™
With our Positive Matrix software, groups become top performing
teams, make sense out of complex or rapidly changing situations
and win agreement for immediate collective action. The benefits
of our facilitated team meetings are:
- Five times faster than conventional
meetings.
- Anyone can facilitate sessions.
- People generate hundreds of useful ideas an hour.
- Everyone gets really involved and has an enjoyable experience.
- New reliable knowledge is created.
- People reach radical but similar conclusions despite their
differences.
- People become committed more readily to take action.
- All ideas are captured, visible, reviewed and made
sense of in one place instantaneously.
Testimonials:
Managers of a large corporation said: it was an "excellent
process to harvest ideas in neutral environment". It "enables
everyone to participate in the thought processes, "removes
all boundaries" and "eliminates my view versus yours".
It also "helps you to use both sides of your brain."
The host of a business strategy meeting
said: "All the
feedback I have received from yesterday was extremely positive.
We accomplished more in one day than what we did in two in previous
years. Also we were able to share the input across the entire
group rather than in individual breakout groups".
Theoretical Underpinnings:
Positive Matrix™ is based on Flow Theory, which finds that
people such as jazz musicians, skiers or rock climbers feel "in
the groove", or a sense of euphoria when the task is fun,
challenging but doable, and where they become so involved in
a task that they lose a sense of the passing of time.
Positive Matrix is powered by the Zing technology platform. The Zing system does for people at meetings what leading process
consultant Edgar Schein describes makes for effective teamwork.
What are the conditions for effective groups (teams)? The team
members have a shared common focus. Everyone is able to contribute
and is "listened to" equally. Feelings are freely expressed.
All aspects of issues are canvassed. No single person is relied
upon to make decisions. People are extremely candid. People become
very creative and open to new ideas. The activity seems effortless.
